2026 ASLA Firm Award

We are deeply honored to share that Phyto Studio has received the 2026 ASLA Landscape Architecture Firm Award. It is the highest honor the American Society of Landscape Architects may bestow on a landscape architecture firm. The award recognizes firms whose body of work has influenced the professional practice of landscape architecture.

From the beginning, Phyto has been built around a simple conviction: plants are not decoration added at the end of a project—they are infrastructure. They shape space, support biodiversity, manage water, respond to disturbance, and create the emotional experience of a landscape. Through our projects, writing, teaching, and advocacy, we have worked to advance planting design as a central discipline within landscape architecture, grounded in designed plant communities, ecological function, horticultural knowledge, and long-term stewardship. We have tried to show that landscapes can be technically rigorous and emotionally powerful, visually rich and ecologically purposeful, carefully designed and capable of changing over time.
This recognition belongs to far more people than our firm alone. We are grateful to the collaborators who have challenged and expanded our thinking, the clients who have trusted us to pursue ambitious ideas, the contractors and gardeners who have carried those ideas into the field, and the many colleagues, teachers, writers, and practitioners who continue to move the profession forward.

We are especially grateful to be part of a field that gives us the chance to put plants to work at a scale that can change places—and, we hope, help shape a more resilient and generous future.

Thank you, to the American Society of Landscape Architects. We are humbled by this recognition.
